Virginia Beach, Va – Dr. Abate is an accomplished physician who specializes in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and research.
He recently joined the Legacy Care team, and will be providing his medical expertise and care to patients in a Virginia-based skilled nursing community.
Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Abate has blended front-line patient care delivery with drug research and clinical trials.
In fact, Dr. Abate led several teams responsible for bringing 5 new cardiovascular drugs to market.
For the past 14 years, he’s served patients in a busy, Virginia-based cardiology practice, with a focus on congestive heart failure and lipids.
Dr. Abate currently serves on several scientific advisory boards that are focused on atrial fibrillation gene therapy, the development of diagnostic tools for autism and other groundbreaking research projects.
He has held many leadership roles, including serving on the board of the Williamsburg-James County Medical Society, the Medical Society of Virginia and others.
Volunteerism and mentorship are among Dr. Abate’s passions. He currently delivers cardiology services at the Angels of Mercy Free Clinic. In his role at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Administration Medical Center, he mentored fellows and residents from The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and Howard University.
When he isn’t caring for patients, Dr. Abate love to spend time with his four sons. Additionally, he likes to cook, play golf and bike.
