Richmond, Va. – Legacy Care welcomes a new partner in care, nurse practitioner Patience Otaigbe, PMH-NP, who specializes in delivering mental health psychiatric counseling for patients in need. Patience will support patients in the following Legacy Care partner facilities:
- Autumn Care of Mechanicsville
- Brookdale Midlothian
- Laurels of Bon Air
- The Windsor
According to the Centers for Disease Control, it is estimated that 20% of people age 55 years or older experience some type of mental health concern. The most common conditions include anxiety, severe cognitive impairment, and mood disorders, such as depression or bipolar disorder. Mental health issues are often implicated as a factor in cases of suicide. Older men have the highest suicide rate of any age group.
Patience has devoted her career to healthcare for more than 23 years, treating patients at United Medical Center in Washington, D.C., Washington Behavioral Health, INOVA Mount Vernon Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia, among others. Patience earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from George Mason University and a Master’s of Science in Nursing, specializing in psychiatric mental health, from Walden University.
